In April 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that Effluent Limitation Guidelines (ELG) now require coal-fired powerplants to move to a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) strategy for FGD wastewater, Bottom Ash Transport Water, and Combustion Residual Leachate (CRL).
